City of Brea COVID-19 Community Update July 9, 2020

Orange County Health Care Agency Statistics

As of today, there has been a cumulative total of 184 Brea residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, and 5 individuals from Brea who have passed away from the virus. According to County statistics, there has unfortunately been 402 deaths county-wide, with 26 newly-reported deaths today. There have been 21,517 confirmed COVID-19 cumulative cases county-wide, 1,292 of which were newly-reported today. There have been 288,996 tests administered, with 3,514 tests reported today. 691 cases are currently hospitalized, 236 of which are in the ICU. COVID-19 Cases Continue to Rise Throughout California

The State of California continues to see a large increase in COVID-19 cases. The testing positivity rate over both the past 14 days is 7.3%. Governor Newsom reported this week that the COVID-19 hospitalization and ICU rates have significantly risen over the past 14 days. 26 counties, including Orange County, are currently on the State’s County Monitoring List as various required statistical thresholds are not being met.

 
Youth Sports Postponed per State Requirements

Youth Sports in Orange County are postponed until further notice. On June 15, the County of Orange allowed youth sports practice, team drills and training to re-open. The State’s Day Camps and Fitness Facility guidelines were used by counties across the state to allow for youth sports practices, team drills and training. Currently, there is no scheduled time by which the State will re-open youth sports. Those who have questions on this topic may visit the State’s guidance documents found here. CARES Act Funding to Assist Brea Businesses with Temporary Use Permit Process

This past Tuesday, July 7, the Brea City Council authorized the use of CARES Act Funding to help Brea businesses offset the costs associated with the Temporary Use Permit process for outdoor dining. Last week, the City began relaxing outdoor dining regulations to support local restaurants during the COVID-19 pandemic and as a result of the recent State order closing indoor dining for at least the next three weeks.
