Brea Tree Lighting Ceremony

Celebrating the Holiday Season

The holiday season is in full swing and there are many festive opportunities to get into the spirit of the season in our community. Join us on Thursday, December 2 at 6:30 p.m. on the front steps of the Brea Civic & Cultural Center for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. Enjoy live music, photos with Santa, and watch the lighting of the holiday tree. A few other attractions this holiday season include, It’s a Wonderful Life, a holiday classic, on the stage at the Curtis Theatre from December 9-19. Tickets are still available. Then, gather the family for Movie Under the Stars at City Hall Park on Saturday, December 18 at 6:00 p.m. to watch Elf. Bring chairs and blankets to bundle up!

The holidays are also a time for giving. Many Brea families and individuals find themselves in need throughout the year, but especially during the holiday season. If you are considering donating this year, the Brea Resource Center and Brea Senior Center are coordinating giving opportunities, like the Wish Tree, Angel Tree, and Adopt a Senior. There is also the Brea Fire Department’s Holiday Toy Drive, and the Brea Community Emergency Council (BCEC) is collecting gift cards to distribute. The community’s kindness makes a real difference to brighten up the outlook of families and individuals in need. However you celebrate, we hope it’s a joyous one! More information on events and holiday giving is available by visiting the City’s website.

Save the Date for Districting Workshops in 2022!

In September, the City began seeking community input to determine how to best map by-district election boundaries. Like many cities in the region, Brea is faced with developing voting districts for use during future City Council elections. Now is the community’s opportunity to contribute ideas and draw their own district map for Brea. Various types of mapping tools are now available for citizens to use. In addition, two District Mapping Workshops will take place on Wednesday, January 12, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., and Saturday, February 12, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The workshops are an opportunity for the community to learn about mapping, as well as create and submit a potential district map for Brea. Stay Fire Safe this Holiday Season

Each year the Brea Fire Department provides helpful fire safety reminders during the holiday season.

  • Cooking is the top cause of holiday fires, make sure to keep a kitchen fire extinguisher that’s rated for all types of fires, and check that smoke detectors are working.
  • Inspect decorative light strings and throw out any with frayed, cracked wires, or broken sockets.
  • When decorating, don’t run more than three strings of lights end-to-end.
  • Extension cords should be in good condition and UL-rated for indoor or outdoor use.
  • Never leave flames unattended.

Feedback Needed for Water & Sewer Rate Study

It’s been several years since Brea last completed a comprehensive water study to determine the costs of delivering water. Establishing water rates is complex and highly regulated, and requires gathering extensive data to determine an appropriate rate structure. As the City embarks on this water and sewer rate study, we would like to know the community's priorities.

How would you prioritize water and sewer rate pricing objectives?
