Honoring Our Veterans
The City of Brea is pleased to be hosting its annual Veterans Day Ceremony this year on Thursday, November 11 at 10:00 a.m. The community is invited to join us in-person to pay tribute to all military heroes, veterans, retired, and active duty members. Additionally, those Breans who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country will be honored. The ceremony will take place at the Brea War Memorial, located in front of the Brea Civic & Cultural Center, 1 Civic Center Circle. The ceremony will include a keynote speaker, remembrance, musical performances, and a flyover. Please plan to arrive early to the ceremony to find parking and available seats. Underground parking will be limited and street closures will occur prior to the start of the ceremony. Guests needing special assistance may park on the west side of the Civic & Cultural Center, or may be dropped off in the semi-circle in front of the Civic & Cultural Center prior to the street closure. For more information, visit www.BreaWarMemorial.com. We look forward to seeing you at the ceremony.

Community Information Meeting: Water & Sewer Rate Study
Learn about the upcoming Water and Sewer Rate and Impact Fee study at a Community Information Meeting on Wednesday, November 10 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in Community Rooms A&B, in the Brea Civic & Cultural Center. The community is invited to attend in-person or via Zoom.
It’s been several years since Brea last completed a comprehensive water study to determine the costs of delivering water. Establishing water rates is complex and highly regulated, and requires gathering extensive data to determine an appropriate rate structure. The goal of this upcoming rate and fee study is to ensure that the revenues cover the cost of services, meet the debt coverage and reserve requirements, and provide revenue for future capital improvement projects. The study will also address drought conditions which could affect rates.

Participate in Brea’s Districting Process
In September, the City began seeking community input to determine how to best draw by-district City Council election boundaries. Like many cities in the region, Brea is faced with developing voting districts for use during future City Council elections. Now is the community’s opportunity to contribute ideas and draw how they think Brea’s districts should look. Mapping tools are now available on the website for citizens to use. There is a paper-only version, a version utilizing an Excel spreadsheet, an interactive web viewer, and a district map-drawing website application. Members of the community are encouraged to send their maps or other feedback on the districting process to districting@cityofbrea.net. Visit cityofbrea.net/districting for more information and to access all mapping tools.

Grant Funds Awarded to Enhance the Community
In an effort to meet a City Council goal of continuing to apply for grants for the Tracks at Brea Trail Western Extension, staff submitted a grant application earlier this year. Recently, the City was awarded grant funds in the amount of $225,000 with no matching requirement. The scope of work for this grant includes community engagement, concept development, and permitting for the segment between Berry Street and the Brea Canyon Flood Control Channel.
The Brea Fire Department was also recently awarded a Cal Fire Prevention grant in the amount of $436,462. This grant will fund one full-time Wildfire/Prevention Specialist to carry out risk assessments, analysis of structure ignition potential, development of written educational materials, and code enforcement in the wildland–urban interface (WUI) year-round.
