Police Community Outreach Bureau & New Officers
The Brea Police Department has established a new unit, the Community Outreach Bureau, which encompasses the Downtown Liaison Officer, the Homeless Liaison Officer, and the School Resource Officer. Each officer maintains their primary responsibilities, but now they will cross-train in each other’s roles. With three officers working together to assist one another, there will be greater flexibility within each role and it will create a more effective team effort in providing services to our community. Be sure to say hello when you see Brea’s new Community Outreach Bureau Officers, whether they are Downtown, at Brea’s schools, or patrolling the City. Brea also welcomed three new lateral police officers to the department. Officers Fernandez, Alferez, and Slater were sworn-in to the department last month and are currently in field training, so please be sure to welcome them as well.

Construction Activity Around the City of Brea
Public streets and utilities need regular repairs, upgrades, and maintenance. Brea’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) plans and provides funding for this type of specific work. The City works closely with selected contractors and sends notifications to affected neighborhoods before construction commences. Last month, work began on intersection improvements at Imperial Highway and Berry Street. Work will be done in three phases and is expected to be completed in spring 2021. Improvements include adding a new right-turn on Imperial Highway, onto Berry Street, as well as, sidewalk work, ADA ramps, signal work, and pavement work. There are also several water and street improvement projects underway in neighborhoods throughout the City. They include the neighborhoods on Moorpark Drive, the Napoli tract subdivision, and the Steele Drive and Pleasant Hills tract. For more information, visit cityofbrea.net/cipprojects. Construction is also well-underway for the 57 Freeway/Lambert Road interchange improvement project. This project has been a goal for the City for decades and once completed, the improvements will provide additional capacity, better traffic flow, enhanced safety, reduced congestion, and delays. The project is about 50% complete, with the recent construction of new sound and retaining walls. Construction is expected to be substantially completed by December of this year. For more information, visit cityofbrea.net/57Lambert.
