New Year, New Vision
Brea’s strong community spirit helped carry us through an extraordinary and challenging 2020. We have found new ways to celebrate, work, go to school and connect with each other. We have learned the importance of having accurate, timely information. And, we learned to quickly adapt as situations change. As an organization, the City of Brea also adapted and found new ways to continue serving the community through the pandemic. We increased our use of social media and email newsletters to provide timely information. We modified the Brea Line newsletter, traditionally printed and mailed four times a year, to a monthly email newsletter so that we can communicate more often. As 2021 is now upon us, there is hope thanks to advances being made to combat the coronavirus. Until then, let's continue best health practices to keep our loved ones, and our community safe and healthy. Cheers to health, happiness, and prosperity in 2021!

Regional Stay-at-Home Order Extended
The City of Brea continues to monitor the changing events involved with the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the safety and wellness of the community. On Monday, December 7, the Southern California Region, which includes Orange County, entered the Regional Stay-at-Home Order due to ICU capacity dropping below 15% in the region. The Order was initially in place for a minimum of three weeks. On December 29, the California Department of Public Health announced that the Southern California Region will remain under the State’s Regional Stay-at-Home Order. The Order will remain in place until ICU projections reach 15% or higher. The current ICU projection for the Southern California Region is 0%. Data is now reassessed daily. The Regional Stay-at-Home Order prohibits private gatherings of any size, closes sector operations, except for critical infrastructure and retail, and requires 100% masking and physical distancing in all others. A list of restrictions currently in place, along with detailed community information related to COVID-19, is available on the City’s website.
City Administrative Offices are currently open to the public, by appointment only. All other City facilities remain closed. Staff is available to assist with business matters by phone or email. A detailed reference guide is available to download on the City’s website. If you need to make an in-person visit, please call 714-990-7600 before coming to City Hall. Please note, face coverings and temperature checks are required and appointment check-in is located at the 3rd-floor reception desk. The City of Brea continues to remain focused on providing services to the community during this pandemic.

Helping Business Comply with California’s Organic Waste Law
The City of Brea recognizes that the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting families, businesses, our community, and our way of life. We understand these might be difficult times for some businesses, while for others it might be a time of growth. With changes in working situations and life routines, there have also been dramatic changes to the amount, and types of solid waste being produced. Approximately 40% of the material Californians dispose of in landfills is recyclable organic waste, and diverting recyclable materials from the landfill reduces greenhouse gas emissions and decreases outdoor air pollution. There are various compliance options available to businesses and the City would like to help facilitate those options with as little impact as possible. In many cases, recycling programs can save money. For more information, contact the City Recycling Coordinator at 714-990-7645 or recyclebrea@cityofbrea.net. Click here to learn more.

Parking Permit Renewals
For safety and aesthetics, overnight street parking, between the hours of 2:00 and 6:00 a.m., is prohibited without an annual permit in the City of Brea. Residents that require additional on-site parking spaces, beyond those on driveways and in garages, can qualify for a permit. Permits need to be prominently displayed and renewed annually. Although enforcement of overnight street parking is currently suspended due to the Regional Stay-at-Home Order, a permit will be required once enforcement resumes. Learn more and purchase online.
