Fireworks Prohibited

Celebrate Responsibly: Fireworks Prohibited in the City of Brea

Keep our community safe by adhering to Brea’s ban on fireworks. The sale, use or discharge of all fireworks are prohibited, even the “safe and sane” variety sold in other cities. Violators face a fine of up to $1,000.  Fireworks are dangerous and can be harmful to you, your property and your pets.  Did you know, that according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, an average of 280 people go to the emergency room each day in the month surrounding the July 4th holiday? Additionally, fireworks pose a serious fire hazard. Sparks from fireworks can travel to nearby homes or brush and ignite a fire.  Please celebrate Independence Day safely by following the fireworks prohibition.

Reminder: As COVID-19 continues to spread, the 4th of July weekend is not the time to gather with those outside of our households. Family gatherings can spread COVID-19 and infect the most vulnerable. Keep your loved ones safe by keeping your distance and wearing a mask. Celebrate responsibly, your actions can save lives.

If you are able to identify an exact location of someone using fireworks, please report it by calling the Brea Police Department’s non-emergency line at 714-990-7911. Thank you for your cooperation and patience as the Brea Fire and Police Departments prioritize such calls during the busy Fourth of July holiday period.

Preventing Mosquitoes: Tip, Toss
and Take Action!

Don’t give mosquitoes a biting chance; join the OC Vector Control and Tip, Toss and Take Action this summer! The recent rains, and now rising temperatures we are experiencing, have led to perfect mosquito breeding conditions around our homes. It’s time to continue our shared responsibility in protecting public health.

Tips for preventing mosquitoes:

  • Inspect your property regularly for standing water, and tip or toss any containers filled with water at least once a week.
  • Close all unscreened doors and windows to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home or space; repair broken or damaged screens.
  • Pour out water from potted plant saucers to eliminate mosquito breeding.
  • Remove trash and clutter. This includes discarded tires, buckets, tarps and any other items that could collect water.
  • Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants, and opt for lighter colored clothing when spending time outdoors.

Orange County residents are urged to report unusual numbers of mosquitoes, or day-biting mosquitoes, to OCMVCD. For more information, please contact the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District at (714) 971-2421 or visit ocvector.org.
