Compost Giveaway on February 22

The City of Brea and Republic Services will be giving away compost for FREE on Saturday, February 22, from 8-10:30 a.m. at Tri City Park, 2301 N Kraemer Blvd. Placentia. Please bring your own containers to fill (no bags). There is a limit of 60 gallons per household, while supplies last.

Compost creates healthier soil by adding organic matter and improving soil structure. Healthy soil uses water more efficiently, allowing available water to flow toward your plants’ roots, storing water in the soil longer, and reducing runoff and erosion.

To receive free compost, residents must provide proof of residency (California driver’s license or utility bill). Contact Republic Services at 714-238-2444 for details.

Upcoming OC Public Library Events

From February 14-29, OC Public Library users with outstanding fines are invited to leap back into the library with Fine Free Library Day. Any items with overdue fines or items that have been marked as “lost” can be returned to any OC Public Library branch and related fines and fees will be waived.

Next month, come out for a meet and greet with author Heather Morris on Saturday, March 14 at 2:30 p.m. at Laguna Niguel Library. Heather is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Tattooist of Auschwitz. Visit ocpl.org for more information.

Wildcatters Dog Park Renovations

Wildcatters Dog Park, located at 3450 E Santa Fe Road, is currently closed for renovation and planned surfacing upgrades. Improvements will include artificial turf, decomposed granite, pea gravel, as well as additional trees, benches, drinking fountains, and more. Report Coyote Sightings to
OC Animal Care

Notice an increase in coyote sightings? Coyote mating season began in late January and runs through February, with pups born between March and April. Coyotes require more food and can exhibit aggressive behavior during this time. The City reminds residents to never attempt to touch, pet or catch wildlife. To report a coyote sighting, please call OC Animal Care at 714-935-6848 (daytime) or 714-259-1122 (evening).

Brea 8K Street Closures

The annual Brea 8K returns on Sunday, February 23! Street closures will occur during the event between the hours of 6-11 a.m. Residents and visitors are urged to plan ahead and take alternate routes, if possible. Streets affected by slowdown and intermittent closures include, portions of State College Blvd, Birch St, and Associated Rd. Visit brea8k.com for more information.
