City of Brea administrative offices will be closed beginning on Wednesday, December 24 through Friday, January 2, 2015. The Curtis Theatre box office will be closed December 24-25 and December 31-January 1. The Brea Gallery’s 46th Watercolor West International Juried Exhibition is on display until December 14. A new exhibition is set to open January 25, 2015.
The Brea Community Center will maintain regular operating hours with closures on Wednesday and Thursday, December 24 and 25, as well as on Wednesday and Thursday, December 31 and January 1, 2015. The Brea Family Resource Center and the Brea Senior Center will be closed Wednesday, December 24, through Thursday, January 1, 2015.
Trash collection will be delayed by one day for Thursday routes falling on holidays this year: December 25 is instead picked up on December 26, and January 1 goes to January 2, 2015. Other trash pick-up days remain unchanged. Over the two-week holiday period, one street sweeping will occur, however, no sweeping parking citations will be issued.
Recycle trees by cutting up and placing in the brown yard waste container. Or, you may place them curbside near the trash cans. Trees over 6' tall must be cut in half. Remove all ornaments, lights and stands. Tree bags and flocked trees are not recyclable and will require you to schedule a special pick up time.
Also, please keep in mind that liquid cooking grease cannot be poured into drains where it causes sewer blockages and spills. Small quantities of waste fats, oils or grease should be contained by absorbing into material such as kitty litter, coffee grounds, or paper towels and then properly disposed of in the regular trash. A larger quantity, such as from turkey deep fryers, must be properly contained and then handled with other hazardous waste products.
For trash collection questions, or to schedule special pick-ups for bulky items or E-waste, please contact Republic Services at (714) 238-2444. For more information about fats, oils and grease, or hazardous wastes, visit the Orange County Sanitation District website at www.ocsd.com.
