[ARCHIVED] Holiday Giving, a Brea Tradition

The Brea Resource Center takes a lead in assisting certain families and individuals living in Brea who need a little extra help. During the holidays, the Brea community’s generosity makes a real difference to brighten their outlook. There are several great ways to give!

The Brea Resource Center (BRC) has set up their Holiday Wish Tree. Decorated with re-quest tags, this tree is located at Brea Community Center. BRC seeks donations of various gift cards for grocery stores, restaurants, variety stores, haircuts, auto services and more. These practical gift cards are used by social workers to provide necessities and much needed support to clients throughout the year.

A new initiative for 2017 is Adopt-A-Vet. Items are being gathered through December 8 to be assembled into care packages for the local Veteran’s Administration hospital. New packages of socks and undergarments, sweatpants and shirts and toiletries are needed. Also desired are books, puzzles, games, and cards.

Non- perishable food items are collected by the Brea Community Emergency Council, serving neighbors in need for over 60 years. Boxes are located at schools and city facilities for donations of canned and dry food goods through December 14. These are then distributed to deserving pre-qualified households. Grocery store $20 gift cards are also desired to allow for the purchase of supplemental fresh food items. Checks, payable to the nonprofit BCEC, are also much appreciated and can be directed to:

Finally, Brea Fire stations and City facilities will accept new toys, games and sporting goods for the Spark of Love/ Toys for Tots campaign. As needed, some of these donations may be combined with food baskets distributed to needy Brea families with children in the household.

For more details on these local holiday giving options, call the Brea Resource Center at (714) 990-7150. Business hours are Monday-Thursday 9am-6pm and Friday 9am-5pm for those who may prefer to drop off gift cards or checks in person.
