The Brea Police Department is currently accepting applications for the positon of Police Cadet. The Police Cadet program is designed to provide a first-hand look at police work to individuals interested in law enforcement. Police Cadets are part-time department employees who provide support services in all areas of the department, including Patrol, Investigation, Evidence, Administration, and Public Lobby reception. While some duties are clerical in nature, other duties include parking enforcement, police report writing, traffic control, and other field duties to provide experience and learning opportunities. Cadets ride with and are mentored by Brea Police Officers, and receive training in tactical communication, firearms, jail operations, and other aspects of law enforcement.
Police Officer recruitment is a challenge for every police agency, and the Brea Police Department utilizes its Cadet program as a primary pool for qualified, motivated, and trained police officer applicants. The department supports higher education, and a Police Cadet’s work hours are planned around school schedules. In addition to adult applicants, this recruiting period is open to current high school senior students.
