Housing Rehabilitation Program

Brea’s Housing Rehab Program can help you finance many of your home’s repairs, such as roof leaks, cracks, termite damage, plumbing leaks, water damage, electrical problems, etc. The City of Brea manages federal funds, allocated through the County of Orange, to help Brea families finance home repairs. Program funds are based on availability and applicants must meet income and other general criteria, such as:

  • Home must be in the City of Brea
  • Owner must live in the home
  • Occupants must meet the County’s low income requirements (listed in the tables below)

Single Family Homes

Type of Program: Deferred Payment Loans with 30-year term for families earning 80% or less of the County median income.
Loan Amount: The maximum loan amount is $35,000.Interest Rate: 0% (terms apply)
Length of Loan: The maximum length of the loan is 30 years. The loan is due earlier when any one of the following occurs: 1) The property is sold, 2) The house is no longer owner-occupied, 3) The house is refinanced for more than the current first mortgage balance, or 4) There is a transfer of ownership.
Security For Loan: Trust Deed recorded against the property
Technical Assistance: City staff will assist in determining needed repairs, hiring contractors, and administering contracts.

Mobile Homes

Type of Program: Grant with a 5-year term for families earning 50% or less of the County median income.
Grant Amount: The maximum grant is $7,000.
Length of Grant: The maximum length of the grant is 5 years. The grant must be paid back when any one of the following occurs within 5 years: owner sells, conveys, or leases any of the owner’s interest in the property.
Technical Assistance: City staff will assist in determining needed repairs, hiring contractors, and administering contracts.
