About Brea's Public Art Program
Brea’s Art in Public Places Program was established in 1975, and was among the first art in private development programs in the state. Over 185 sculptures have been created since the program’s inception. Brea’s Art in Public Places Collection includes outdoor sculpture in a wide range of mediums, styles, and approaches by nationally and internationally renowned artists, such as Magdalena Abakanowicz, J. Seward Johnson, and Nikki de St. Phalle.
Sculptures created under the program are commissioned by private developers for permanent outdoor display on their property and are maintained by property owners. All sculptures go through a formal review process and are placed at prominent locations where they can be enjoyed by the public.
