What should go in each of Brea’s different colored trash containers?
The black container is for common household trash, food waste and yard waste. Do not place dirt, sod, rock, concrete, debris from construction or flammable materials such as gas, oil or paint in the black container.
The green container is for recyclable items such as newspaper, cardboard, computer paper, magazines, glass, aluminum cans and plastic containers. Do not place waxed paper, carbon paper, styrofoam, food or yard waste in the green container. In areas where brown trash containers are provided, those containers are for compost materials such as leaves, branches, plant clippings, grass and weeds. Brea's recycling program, Recycle Brea, is a proven success. Materials collected through this program are recycled and remanufactured into new, useful products.
All Brea households are provided with two special containers—one black container for trash and one green container for recyclable items. In some cases, homeowners with larger yards are provided with a brown trash container for yard clippings. The trash containers have built-in wheels and handles and come with a permanently attached lid. These containers have been specifically designed for automated trash collection. Waste in old trashcans will not be collected. For complete details, call Brea Disposal at (714) 238-3300.
Can I still save aluminum cans for my charity?
Brea Disposal encourages community support. This program does not suggest that you discontinue your current recycling efforts. However, those items not collected by your charity should be placed in the green container. Any recycling effort will contribute to the success of the program and help decrease the amount of disposable waste.
